Kansas City, MO – Governor Jay Nixon touted his economic-development plan at Maple Woods Community College on Wednesday. Nixon wants to focus on targeted growth industries like advance manufacturing, animal health and life sciences.
Notably absent was any comment about ante-ing up to meet the competition Kansas City, Missouri faces from more lucrative Kansas tax breaks. And when asked about the border job war, Nixon commented, "We've got a lot more competition in this state than just on on one side of State Line and the other side of State Line."
Nixon may have a tough fight getting what incentives he wants through the legislature. On Tuesday a commission he appointed recommended cutting the number of tax breaks Missouri offers by as much as 50 percent.
