Betty Ford: A FLOTUS With Power

University of Kansas Press

Known for her advocacy of the Equal Rights Amendment, Betty Ford often spoke her mind freely, despite the fact that her political beliefs did not always align with her husband's.

On Wednesday's Up to Date, author John Robert Greene, author of Betty Ford: Candor and Courage in the White House, takes a deeper look at this controversial woman who remains one of history's most outspoken and influential first ladies.

HEAR MORE: John Robert Greene will speak about his book at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19th at  the Kansas City Public Library Plaza Branch as part of the library's Beyond the Gowns: First Ladies series. This series is co-sponsored by KCUR. Admission is free.

John Robert (“Bob”) Greene has taught at Cazenovia College for the past thirty-two years. He also serves as the College Archivist, the director of the Washburn Teaching and Research Fellowships, and the director of the annual Wheler Conference on World Affairs. Dr. Greene’s teaching and writing specialty lies in American Political History, particularly the American presidency. In 1993 he was named Distinguished Faculty Member, and in 2000 he was awarded Cazenovia College's first endowed chair.

I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
