One of the largest school districts on the Kansas side of the metro will be searching for a new superintendent.

The Blue Valley School District, with more than 22,000 students and 1,800 teachers, says Dr. Tom Trigg is the sole finalist for the superintendent's job in the Highland Park School District in suburban Dallas.

Trigg has been with the district for 19 years and took the top job in 2004.

"We have been fortunate to have a visionary leader who wants all students to follow their dreams,” Pam Robinson, Blue Valley Board of Education president said in a statement.

Highland Park is much smaller than Blue Valley with fewer than 7,000 students and about 400 teachers.

According to district records, Trigg makes $307,765 a year in Blue Valley.

The current Highland Park superintendent, Dr. Dawson Orr, makes $233,720 but he does live rent free in a district owned home.

Highland Park generated national headlines last year when parents forced the district to ban seven books from high school English classes.

Blue Valley is just the latest Kansas City-area district to lose its superintendent.

Last month, North Kansas City Superintendent Todd White stepped down to take a job as an assistant superintendent's position in Blue Valley.

Kansas City Public School Superintendent Steve Green is leaving to take the top job at the DeKalb County School District in Georgia. The school board there voted last week to pay Green a base salary of $300,000 a year.

The Parkville School District has named its acting superintendent, Dr. Jeanette Cowherd, as interim for the coming school year while it searches for a permanent superintendent.

The scandal-plagued St. Joseph School District is expected to name its own interim superintendent soon after it fired Fred Czerwonka following a scathing state audit in February.
