Celebrating the Birthday of Philly Joe Jones

This week on 12th Street Jump we celebrate the birthday of Philly Joe Jones with our special guest Tommy Ruskin.

Philly Joe Jones

Joseph Rudolph (Philly Joe) Jones (July 15, 1923 – August 30, 1985) was a Philadelphia-born American jazz drummer, known as the drummer for the Miles Davis Quintet.-Wikipedia

Tommy Ruskin

Drummer Tommy Ruskin has enjoyed a distinguished career, having played with jazz greats Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Clark Terry, Scott Hamilton and Gene Harris (among many others). For twenty years, Ruskin has been highly involved with both the Topeka and Kansas City Jazz Workshops. Tommy lives and works in Kansas City, where he and his wife, vocalist Julie Turner, have long been mainstays of that city’s jazz community.-http://www.mhrrecords.com/catalog/index.html

On the funny side of things, Dr. Pearl helps Tom Cruise handle the truth and Tommy’s Tom Tom Tutorial makes political messaging a little easier on the eardrums.

Song List:
Come On Over To My House
Solar
Billy Boy
Take Five
But Not For Me
Ahmad’s Blues
Bye Bye Blackbird
