Developing Healthy, Affordable Communities, And Having 'Conversations That Matter'

For people on fixed incomes, being priced out of house and home by redevelopment and rising property values is a real concern. Today, we learn how developers can maintain affordable housing levels while improving neighborhoods and avoiding gentrification. Then, Celeste Headlee, host of Georgia Public Broadcasting's On Second Thought, explains the importance of having face-to-face conversations in an era of ubiquitous online "pokes" and tweets.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
