KCMO Citizen Task Force On Violence Begins Work

Kansas City’s new Citizen Task Force on Violence is up and rolling as it confronts the difficult question of why there’s so much violence in the metro. The committee had its first meeting last week, amid another spike in homicides in recent weeks.

Guests:

  • Councilwoman Jolie Justus heads the task force.
  • Wick Thomas is teen librarian at the Plaza Branch of the Kansas City Public Library and a task force member.
  • Rev. Tina Harris is the Pastor at Grand Avenue Temple United Methodist Church, located on 9th Street in KCMO. She is also a member of the task force.

For questions and information about the Citizens Task Force On Violence, visit www.kcmo.gov/violence. You can also contact violencetaskforce@kcmo.gov or call 816-513-6517.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers. Reach me at steve@kcur.org or on Twitter @stevekraske.
Slow news days are a thing of the past. As KCUR’s news director, I want to cut through the noise, provide context to the headlines, and give you news you can use in your daily life – information that will empower you to make informed decisions about your neighborhood, your city and the region.
