Mayor In Ozarks Resigns After Connections To JCC Shooting Suspect Surface

The mayor of a small town in the Ozarks has resigned after making racist comments and revealing he was once friends with the man accused of killing three people at two Jewish facilities in Overland Park, Kan., on April 13.

Ozarks Public Radio reports that Marionville Mayor Dan Clevenger said he would resign Monday after four of five aldermen voted to impeach him.

Clevenger told ABC affiliate KSPR after the arrest of shooting suspect Frazier Glen Cross, Jr., that the two used to be friends.

"Kind of agreed with him on some things, but I don't like to express that too much," Clevenger told KSPR.

Ten years ago Clevenger didn't seem to have a problem expressing racist viewpoints. In a letter to the editor of the Aurora Advertiser Clevenger wrote:

"I am a friend of Fraizer Miller helping to spread his warnings. The Jew-run medical industry has succeeded in destroying the United States workforce."

At a meeting of the Marionville Board of Alderman Monday night, around 80 citizens from the town of 2,225 showed up to express concern about the mayor's comments.

“You are a representative of us. We’re not a representative of you. What you say, what comes out of your mouth, is what we say, and I’m not racist," said Alderman Dan Noyes.

Clevenger is expected to submit his official resignation Tuesday.
