New Adventure For Wimpy Kid

Rainy Day Books

Do you remember getting teased by other kids, running from cooties and hoping for snow days? The memories and the ink are still fresh in the latest installment of Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

On Tuesday's Up to Date, we’ll talk with author Jeff Kinney about the popularity of the series and why pre-teen kids seem to relate to it so well.

Also, we'll look at the newest book in the series, The Third Wheel, about the title character Greg's adventures with the school dance.

HEAR MORE: Jeff Kinney speaks today at 4 p.m. at Unity Temple on the Plaza, 707 W. 47th St. in Kansas City, Mo. Call Rainy Day Books in Fairway at (913) 384-3126 or click here for ticket information.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney didn’t grow up wanting to be a children’s author. His dream was to become a newspaper cartoonist, but he wasn’t able to get his comic strips syndicated. In 1998, he came up with the idea for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a story about a middle-school weakling named Greg Heffley. Kinney worked on his book for almost eight years before showing it to a publisher in New York.
