Overland Park, Kan. police say they can make no connection between Monday night’s gun assault on a house in the ten thousand block of Kessler and other violent crimes this summer.
A wounded 8-year-old boy, shot in the shoulder, is recovering.
His mother and two younger children in the house were unharmed.
As many as ten shots were fired into the house and police are unable to find a credible witness to identify the shooter or shooters. A dark colored sedan was seen speeding away.
The city had its first two homicides of the year in July and September.
Officer Gary Mason, speaking for the department, said none of the three crimes have a common denominator, or method.
“Everybody wants to think about guns and drugs and gangs and they are connected in that guns were used, but all through those cases there doesn’t seem to be any connection,” he said.
Mason says the September murder had a domestic violence motive but the July case remains unknown, except that it appeared an intentional murder hit. Thirty-year-old Raymond Thomas was killed in his driveway by a person who left in a car with Missouri license plates. Thomas was a father of three.
Two-and-a-half months later there has been no arrest.
