The recent inauguration of Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, left, means both Kansas and Missouri have governors with less than a year on the job. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson took the oath of office in June 2018, after the resignation of Eric Greitens.

Segment 1: An early look at Kansas City's mayoral race, and the performance of new governors in Kansas and Missouri.

There’s so much going on in the world of politics that we couldn’t resist any longer. Today, our political panel discussed the mayor's race in Kansas City, Missouri, which is beginning to heat up, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson's plans for infrastructure and workforce development, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly's struggle with Republicans on tax cuts and school funding, and the soon-to-be-open U.S. Senate seat in Kansas.

Segment 2, beginning at 25:45: A Kickstarter campaign to fund the effort raised more than $50,000.

Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Negro National League. To celebrate, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum has partnered with Dreams Fulfilled, which helps promote the history of the Negro Leagues through original art. The organizations want to remember the legacy of some of the league's best players in bobblehead form. Today, we learned about a few of baseball's black civil rights pioneers, and where to get their limited-edition figurines.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
