Seg. 1: Parks Director Mark McHenry. Seg. 2: Climate Change Report.

Segment 1: Forty-four years at Kansas City Parks and Rec.

From his early years mowing grass, to repairing fiberglass kangaroos at Penguin Park, to overseeing the vast system of parks and boulevards, we hear about Mark McHenry's long career in Parks and Recreation. And yes, he says, it's a lot like the TV show. He plans to retire from his post as Director this December.

Segment 2, beginning at 17:20: How does climate change affect Kansas City?

When we think of climate change, we might think of shrinking coasts, but what about the Midwest? We talk about what’s at stake in our region and what we can do to mitigate the damage.

People don't make cameos in news stories; the human story is the story, with characters affected by news events, not defined by them. As a columnist and podcaster, I want to acknowledge what it feels like to live through this time in Kansas City, one vantage point at a time. Together, these weekly vignettes form a collage of daily life in Kansas City as it changes in some ways, and stubbornly resists change in others.
