Updated, 2:03 p.m. Tuesday:

The Kansas City Police Department says two more people have died after last week's crime spree in South Kansas City, Mo., bringing the total number of victims to five.

The police department tweeted that Ann Taylor, 86, and George Taylor, 80, died Tuesday of injuries allegedly sustained when Brandon B. Howell, 34, broke into their home.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker had previously filed first degree assault charges in the attack on the Taylors.

In a statement, the prosecutor's office extended thoughts and prayers to the Taylor family but has not yet announced new charges against Howell.

"Our office is evaluating potential changes in criminal charges facing Brandon Howell," according to the statement. "Be assured that at the appropriate time, today’s sad news of the Taylor’s passing will be reflected in the state’s case against the defendant."
