'Spamalot' Opens At Starlight This Weekend

Do you hear the sound of coconuts? Or is that the hooves of a horse? It's actually the cast of Spamalotcoming into town to perform the musical version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail at Starlight Theater. Starlight decided to add the musical to its summer schedule after frequent requests from members and theater goers at Starlight.

President and Executive Producer of Starlight Denton Yockey said they survey their audiences frequently and this is one musical that has been requested over and over. Starlight is partnering with Theater Under The Stars in Houston to get this production and it will be at Starlight May 31- June 6.

For Janine DiVita, the actress who plays the Lady of the Lake, performing at Starlight is a bit of a homecoming. DiVita grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, and participated in many local theather productions including Theater in the Park before attending Michigan to study musical theater. She is now a professional actress and is excited to perform such a fun character back in the city where she discovered her love of musical theater.

Kansas City is known for its style of jazz, influenced by the blues, as the home of Walt Disney’s first animation studio and the headquarters of Hallmark Cards. As one of KCUR’s arts reporters, I want people here to know a wide range of arts and culture stories from across the metropolitan area. I take listeners behind the scenes and introduce them to emerging artists and organizations, as well as keep up with established institutions. Send me an email at lauras@kcur.org or follow me on Twitter @lauraspencer.
