Bannister Redevelopment Continues To Advance

Plans for redevelopment of the old Bannister Mall area are moving ahead. A City Council committee heard a very optimistic report Wednesday. The committee that handles economic development approved the city's application for nearly $11 million in state tax breaks for the developer, Cerner Corporation.

Missouri State Representative Sues Over Contraceptive Coverage

A lawsuit filed on behalf of a Missouri state representative is aimed at changing a mandate from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that he says violates his religious rights .Paul Wieland, a Republican House member from Imperial, says he and his wife are no longer able to opt out of contraceptive coverage under a state health plan.

Immigration Debate Heats Up At Topeka Forum

Republican Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins held a town hall meeting in Topeka Wednesday to hear opinions from voters in eastern Kansas, and many of them had immigration on their minds. Jenkins fielded several questions and comments about immigration and the discussion became quite heated.

Smoke Tax Indictments Will Feed Federal Coffers

What began as a suspicion of illegal sale of cigarettes in the Kansas City area spread as far as upstate New York and has turned into a bonanza of cash for the U.S. government.    Three and a half million dollars will be forfeit,  even before anyone goes to trial.

New Fund Aims To Increase Digital Literacy In Kansas City

The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation  announced it would manage a fund aimed at bridging the digital divide in Kansas City. Recent studies of digital literacy in Kansas City have shown a quarter of our residents don’t have broadband at home.  Seventeen percent don’t use the internet at all.

Missouri Senate Panel Hears Testimony On Medicaid Expansion

A Missouri Senate interim committee looking into the state's Medicaid system heard from several doctors and other health care providers Wednesday at a hearing in Jefferson City.
