Police investigate the site of a shootout between police and alleged burglars on 68th St. near Swope Park in Kansas City. The shooting left one dead and capped a violent 48 hours in the city that saw three people killed and several injured by gunfire.

Updated 5 p.m. Aug. 5, 2018: Between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and Sunday morning, four people died from gun violence and there were 24 shootings total in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Kansas City Police Department said they'll have an update on the shootings Monday. But City Councilman Jermaine Reed said that the violence is disturbing.

"We've got to figure out a way that leads us to being able to resolve our issues, our problems, without shooting at eachother," he said Sunday afternoon.

Original story from Aug. 3, 2018:

A rash of shootings in Kansas City on Wednesday and Thursday left three people dead and at least 11 others injured.

Two men have been charged with second-degree murder since Wednesday morning, and one murder suspect is still at large as of Friday morning. And police are still investigating an incident in which police officers came under fire responding to a disturbance call Thursday night.

Wednesday morning:

Tyjaun Caldwell, 20, faces charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action for fatally shooting a woman Wednesday morning near US-71 two blocks south of Brush Creek. KSHB reports Caldwell was arguing with the woman's son, and when he fired shots at the other man, his mother jumped in the line of fire. A bullet struck and killed her.

Wednesday evening:

Curtrail Hudson, 18, faces eight charges, including second-degree murder and assault, for shooting three people, killing one.

Court documents allege Hudson killed 39-year old Xindong Hao, who was visiting from China and studying at the International House of Prayer in south Kansas City. He was married and the father of four children.

The shooting happened outside a home in a neighborhood behind the church near Red Bridge Road. Charging documents show the arresting officers thought the suspect Hudson was high on PCP at the time of his arrest.

Thursday afternoon:

Police are still looking for a suspect in a shooting that left one person dead near 18th and Prospect. Another man was injured in that shooting.

Thursday night:

Police responded to a report of a break-in at a house near Swope Park around 10:30 p.m. The department says the suspects inside the home fired on the officers. After an exchange of gunfire, three men came out of the house. All three were arrested and one was transported to the hospital with injuries. The incident is still being investigated.

Other incidents:

At least 8 additional people have been injuried by gunfire since Wednesday morning. KCTV reports one child was among those hurt in five non-fatal shootings. One man suffered critical injuries, but the rest are non-life threatening.
