Adopting A Furry Friend

Buying a cat or dog from a store isn’t your only option—pet adoption is growing more popular. However, taking in a rescue animal does present challenges.

On Monday's Up to Date, veterinarian Wayne Hunthausen joins Steve Kraske to talk about ways to acquire a furry friend and discuss what you should watch for when picking out a pet.

Tori Fugate, manager of marketing and development of the KC Pet Project, also joins the conversation.

We also look at how to handle a pet with psychological damage from a previous owner and what to do to prepare your home for a new arrival.

Dr. Wayne Hunthausen is a veterinarian and pet behavior consultant who has been working with pet owners and veterinarians throughout North America to solve companion animal behavior problems since 1982. He received his Bachelor of Arts (zoology) and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from the University of Missouri. Dr. Hunthausen is director of Animal Behavior Consultations in the Kansas City area, which provides behavior consultations and training services for pet owners, as well as a behavior support service for veterinarians.  To read his full bio, click here.
