War: How Violence Can Lead To Stability

War is bloody, tragic and violent, but it also has benefits for society—even if it doesn’t feel that way when the bullets are flying.

On Tuesday's Up to Date, we talk with a historian about his idea that war ultimately leads to stability and prosperity, despite the high body counts it takes to get there.

Guest:

  • Ian Morris, professor of classics and history at Stanford University

HEAR MORE: Ian Morris speaks at 6:30 p.m. April 29, at the Central Branch of The Kansas City Public Library, 14 W. 10th, Kansas City, Mo.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
