Playwright Captures Woman's Experience With Teen Domestic Violence

In 2007 in Cleveland, Johanna Orozco was raped and shot in the jaw by her ex-boyfriend. Coverage of the shooting inspired new legislation in Ohio targeting teen-on-teen violence and a play based on Johanna's experience. Steve Kraske speaks with the journalist who covered the event and the playwright of "Johanna: Moving Forward."

Guests:

  • Rachel Dissell is a Cleveland journalist who covered the story.
  • Tlaloc Rivas is the playwright of "Johanna:Facing Forward," which was inspired by Dissell's reporting.

“Johanna: Facing Forward” opens Friday, October 16 and runs through October 25 at the Crafton-Preyer Theatre on the KU campus. For more information, go to kutheatre.com.
