For the 3rd year in a row, Abraham Lincoln topped C-SPAN's presidential leadership survey. On Presidents Day (more accurately known as Washington's Birthday), we explore the struggle over emancipation and the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment. Then, reporters update us on the latest Harvest Public Media headlines, including POTUS' pick for agriculture secretary, how to define milk and why more GMOs are showing up in grocery stores.

Michael Vorenberg will present 'Lincoln, the Thirteenth Amendment, and America's Struggle for Peace and Freedom' at the University of St. Mary's 19th Annual Lincoln Event in Xavier Theater in Leavenworth, Kansas, at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 20. The event is free but seating is limited. For more information, visit StMary.edu.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers. Reach me at steve@kcur.org or on Twitter @stevekraske.
