It may not seem like a health issue at first but Dr. Vivek Murthy, the 19th Surgeon General of the United States (and first person of Indian descent to hold the post), is very concerned about what he calls a 'loneliness epidemic.' Today, we dig into why he thinks tackling it is one of the most important things society can do. Then, like a lot of white folks, Debby Irving cares deeply about social justice, but used to worry about coming off as stupid, racist, or radical, so she didn't speak up when she saw discrimination. It wasn't until she accepted her own 'whiteness' that she realized her role in perpetrating ill-conceived ideas about race.
