The decision likely ensures that the case against Trump won’t be tried before the election, and then only if he is not reelected.

Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, a GOP candidate for governor and the official who oversees Missouri elections, claimed "the democrats are trying to steal another election.” U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a Kansas City Democrat, said that nobody is "above accountability."

Former President Trump announced his indictment Thursday evening and is due in federal court in Miami on Tuesday to be arraigned. While many Democrats are celebrating the indictment, GOP politicians in Missouri and Kansas are supporting Trump.

The charges, which are expected to be released in coming days, make Trump the first former president in United States history to be criminally indicted.

The unprecedented indictment of a former president comes as Trump is running for the presidency for a third time — and hopes to maintain his hold on Missouri’s GOP faithful.
