Kansas City, MO – In August, UMKC hosted its 42nd annual Carolyn Benton Cockefair Continuing Education Series. To kick off the series, Kansas City Repertory Theatre's new Artistic Director Eric Rosen presented the keynote lecture entitled "New Visions, New Voices: Cultivating Kansas City as a National Center for the American Theatre." Rosen has directed two of the theatre's most critically acclaimed productions - Mary Zimmerman's Tony Award-winning "Metamorphoses" and Horton Foote's "The Trip to Bountiful." In collaboration with writer and performer Matt Sax, Rosen also developed and directed a hip-hop musical called "Clay". This coming-of-age story appeared at Los Angeles' Kirk Douglas Theatre in October, and it is set to open in New York theatres this year.
