Topeka, KS – The Kansas Attorney General is the top law enforcement officer in the state. The primary job responsibilities include enforcing and defending state laws.
But this year's campaign for that office has taken on a national tone, with issues involving illegal immigration and the new national health reform law.
The incumbent -- Democratic Attorney General Steve Six -- was appointed to the job in 2008 by former Governor Kathleen Sebelius. His Republican challenger is Derek Schmidt, the majority leader in the Kansas Senate.
The two men squared off for a debate earlier this week in Wichita. Stephen Koranda was there and filed this report.
