Kemper ARTcast 2: Photography, An Ever-Changing Format

Through May 18th, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting the exhibition Biographical Landscape: The Photography of Stephen Shore, 1969 to 1979, a collection of images of America by the esteemed photographer.

Kansas City, MO – In his work, Shore was among the first photographers to advance color photography beyond advertising and fashion photography. Beth Harris, curator of education at the Kemper Museum, recently visited with Elijah Gowan, assistant professor of art, at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, to ask him about photography, a medium that often undergoes tremendous change as technologies evolve.

MUSIC: "Symmetry" (2007), by Kansas City group Monta at Odds. In a recent exhibition at Review Studios, artist Jorge Garcia Almodovar's wall piece called "Untitled (Symmetry)" (2007) used a sound-activated electronic color organ, which translated this song.
