Groundbreaking for Two Buildings at JCCC

Kansas City, MO – December 17, 2004 - Johnson County Community College held a "virtual" groundbreaking today in an indoor ceremony for what officials describe as the biggest project in the school's history. The $55 million project will bring to the Overland Park campus a new Regnier Center for Technology and Business and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. Jerome Nerman says he and his wife Margaret and son Lewis have collected art for more than 25 years.

Jerome Nerman: "We have practiced the three S's: searching, securing and sharing the art."

The Nerman and Regnier families contributed $6. 5 million combined. The remaining funds come from a variety of sources, including a half-mill property tax levy over the next 10 years, and about 4 million dollars in revenue bonds. The college's first-ever capital campaign has also raised $10.3 million towards a $15 million goal.
