Kansas City, MO – UMKC has named a new chancellor, University of Texas-San Antonio provost Guy Bailey. The University of Missouri-Kansas City's top position has been in flux since Martha Gilliland stepped down amid controversy in December. Bailey will begin his duties on January first. The Alabama-native started his career as a linguistics professor but has been serving the past decade in administrative roles. As a provost, Bailey is credited with helping increase enrollment, securing money for research, and expanding the faculty. KCUR's Maria Carter spoke with Guy Bailey about coming to Kansas City and what attracted him to the campus.
