New Letters on the Air: Former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove

Kansas City, MO – Akron native Rita Dove finds literary inspiration everywhere for her writing. After penning her first play, she talks about the novelty of playwrighting with Angela Elam from New Letters on the Air.

Dove is a former poet laureate of the United States from 1993 to 1995, and the first African American so honored. She was the youngest laureate ever at that time.

Currently Dove teaches English at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
