Abstinence Encouraged with Hip Hop

Urban Youth Leadership's new play "Blood Money" promotes abstinence with hip hop.By Sylvia Maria Gross

Kansas City, MO – On television, hip hop and sex are almost always connected. But a Kansas City youth group is using the musical style to a very different end: to interest young men in abstinence ? that?s abstinence from alcohol, drugs, and especially, sex. Patricia Pearl works with young people at Urban Youth Leadership, a Christian group connected to the Women?s Clinic of Kansas City. She wrote and directed the play ?Blood Money,? which was performed last week for Kansas City public school students as part of a character-building curriculum.
