Kansas City, MO – In April (2006), reporters from the Midwest toured the new addition to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Steven Holl-designed Bloch (block) building. Holl describes it as a 60 story skyscraper lying on its side, and when it opens in mid-2007, it will house the museum?s modern and contemporary art, photography, and African art collections. The project has been marked by a number of challenges, much of it having to do with light, from the custom-made planks of glass to testing the fluorescent lights that will illuminate the building at night. KCUR?s Laura Spencer talked to architect Steven Holl.
