WEB EXTRA: An Interview with Lynn Ahrens

Broadway composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have collaborated for more than 20 years, writing Seussical, Ragtime and other award-winning musicals. This weekend marks the world premiere at the Coterie of an Ahrens & Flaherty work called Twice Upon A Time: The Lorax and The Emperor's New Clothes - Dr. Seuss and Hans Christian Andersen. Kansas City, MO – KCUR's Steve Walker talked to Ahrens about the collaboration with the Coterie and its artistic director Jeff Church.

From the Coterie: "Two beloved children's authors are musically paired together this summer in Twice Upon A Time: The Lorax and The Emperor's New Clothes ? Dr. Seuss and Hans Christian Andersen, June 26 to August 5 at the Coterie Theatre. It's a world premiere double bill (by the Broadway composing team of Ahrens & Flaherty )...and the fourth musical produced in the Coterie's Lab for New Family Musicals.

June 29, Opening Night: After the show, patrons are invited to a free reception with the directors and cast.

June 30 and July 1, Q&A: Free post-performance question and answer sessions with the Company.

June 30, July 7, July 14, July 21, July 28 and August 4, TARGET Saturday Matinees: Buy one ticket; receive one free courtesy of Target.

July 14, Coterie Family Fling: A benefit for the Coterie Theatre featuring dinner, children's activities including Kaleidoscope activity and a special evening performance of Twice Upon a Time: The Lorax and The Emperor's New Clothes - Dr. Seuss and Hans Christian Andersen. July 21, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Twice Upon a Time Family Day Theatre Workshop: For families with children ages 5-9, this Saturday workshop will include a theater workshop for kids, refreshments with parents, reserved seats to the 2 p.m. performance followed by a question and answer session with the cast and a backstage tour. Cost is $75 per child and includes one child and two adult tickets to the performance. Additional tickets are available at the box office.
