Kansas City, MO – The Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City recently awarded more than $11,000 to local artists in the second round of ArtsKC Fund Inspiration grants. KCUR's Laura Spencer reports.

The Inspiration grants provide direct support for artists and arts professionals for projects to advance careers or create capacity for future work. Seven projects and nine artists were selected through a competitive review process. In a new series, artist Anne Lindberg has been working with taut graphite lines and a grant will pay for a custom built 9 foot drawing table.

Anne Lindberg: "Currently, I'm limited by the technology of drafting equipment...only up to 5 feet. So they're making me a custom parallel bar and drawing table system that will allow me to make these drawings quite a bit larger so they begin to test your peripheral vision and become almost more powerful as spaces."

Other grants include funds for artists to attend seminars, record CDs, and buy raw materials for installation projects. The ArtsKC Fund is a united arts fund, and an initiative of the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City. There are three categories of grants distributed to arts organizations, arts programs, and individual artists. Laura Spencer, KCUR News.

Applications for the first of three rounds for 2008 Inspiration grants will be available in February.
