Rent: School Edition

When the late Jonathan Larson filtered the Puccini opera La Boheme through contemporary bohemian life on New York's Lower East Side, the result was the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical Rent. Though some audiences found its gritty take on AIDS, sexuality and homelessness off-putting, the show hooked droves of diverse young people on musical theater.By Steve Walker

Kansas City, MO – Now that the Broadway production has closed, Rent has been officially refitted in a way that makes it palatable to high school theater departments, including that of the local Barstow School.
