  • As GM scrambles to avoid bankruptcy, it announces planned "indefinite layoffs" at its Fairfax assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas. There will be a total of 3600 layoffs distributed among 10 plants.
  • Missouri governor-elect Jay Nixon has named his transition team, to be headed by former Al Gore chief-of-staff Charles Burson.
  • Five city council members take Mayor Mark Funkhouser to task for his lawsuit over an ordinance that banned the mayor's wife from city hall.
