 Listen Podcast

Your Thanksgiving menu is probably nearing completion: a turkey, possibly some sweet potatoes... a bit of stuffing.... pumpkin pie for dessert? Or perhaps you're planning on creating a new tradition of different food choices.

But what drinks should you pair with the food? Are you concerned about the economy putting a crimp in your shopping plans this year?

Steve Kraske sits down with wine consultant and writer Doug Frost, one of three people in the world to hold the dual designation Master Sommelier and Master of Wine, to examine which wines are best for specific holiday meals, which wines make the best gifts, and which ones are good for first time wine drinkers.

Wine Selections from this program:

Mumm Sparkling Wine Cuv?e M, Napa Valley
"Baron K" 2008 Baron Knyphausen Riesling
Clos Des Myglands Faviveley Mercurey 1er Cru
Quattro Leoni 2007 Vino Rosso Barbera D'Asti
Maryhill Malbec (Proprietor's Reserve)
Boulevard Long Strange Tripel (Smokestack Series Beer)

Additional Information:

Doug Frost is a Kansas City author who writes and lectures about wine, beer and spirits. In 1991 he passed the rigorous Master Sommelier examination and two years later became a Master of Wine. He was the second person in history to complete both exams and eight years later he is still one of only three people in the world to have achieved both these remarkable distinctions.

His first book, Uncorking Wine, released in the summer of 1996, is still a staple for many restaurant and retail companies and their staff and management. He has written about wine and spirits for many publications including New York Times Digital, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Underground Wine Journal, Practical Winery & Vineyard and is a columnist and contributing editor for Sante Magazine, as well as the beverage columnist for the Kansas City Star. Doug is also host of KCPT's "Check, Please! Kansas City".
