KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For aspiring African American poets, there's no greater learning experience than the annual Cave Canem retreat held at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, Pa. This year, Kansas City's Glenn North was one of just 52 poets selected from all across the country to attend. During the intensive week-long retreats, poets work with some of the biggest names in African American poetry, people like Cornelius Eady, Amiri Baraka and Lucille Clifton. KCUR's Susan B. Wilson talked to Glenn North about going to Cave Canem.
Glenn North is the poet in residence at the American Jazz Museum.He will be hosting a special Jazz Poetry Jam on Tuesday, April 19 at the museum with several other local poets who have participated in Cave Canem workshops, including Natasha El-Scari and Stacey Tolbert.
