A New Executive Director For The Rep

After conducting a nationwide search, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre has chosen Angela Lee Gieras as its executive director. This marks a newly created position for the nearly 50-year-old regional theater.

Scott Boswell is the chair of the Rep's board of directors and served on the search committee. In a release, Boswell says, "Angela (Gieras) has a strong background in theatre, not-for-profit strategy, finance and development."

According to the Rep, Gieras will serve as the organization's chief administrative and operating officer and "partner with (artistic director Eric) Rosen to fulfill the Rep’s artistic vision and mission; assume overall responsibility for the day-to-day administrative, operational and human resources functions of the theatre and serve as the primary staff representative to the theatre’s board of directors and UMKC, where the Rep is the professional theater in residence."

Previously, Gieras held the position of director of development at The Florida Theatre in Jacksonville, Fla. Before that, she was general manager of the Dallas Theater Center in Dallas, Tex. and vice president of major gifts for planned giving for KERA, North Texas Public Broadcasting.

Her background includes a B.S. in finance from the University of Florida, and an MBA and MA in arts administration from Southern Methodist University.

Gieras starts at the Rep on August 1. She plans to move to Kansas City this summer with her husband and daughter.
