KCMO School Board Names Two Finalists For Superintendent

Kansas City, MO – Two finalists for the job of Kansas City Missouri schools superintendent were named Tuesday afternoon. The candidates will answer questions at a public forum Wednesday evening at Paseo Academy.

Mary Guinn was superintendent of schools in Gary, Indiana for six years. She left after that city's school board decided not to continue her contract. Since 2004, she's been the Chief Academic Officer of the school district in Tulsa, Oklahoma. John Covington is the other candidate - he's superintendent of schools in Pueblo, Colorado. Kansas City's schools have been headed by interim superintendents for more than a year, since the previous incumbent was asked to step down. The school board expects to announce a decision Thursday.
