KANSAS CITY, MO. – Kansas City has joined a pilot project focused on finding jobs, internships and education for high school dropouts.
Project Rise challenges non-working, out-of-school 18 to 24 year olds. It is a work-in-progress.
Kansas City will receive nearly $4 million. Funding comes from a variety of sources including United Way and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Andres Domingues of the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City is among advisory board members picked by Mayor Sly James-- "You hope that something like this does in fact become an incubator that creates the kind of capital and the kind of opportunities that sometimes are not coalesced in Kansas City."
The models are successful poverty fighting programs in New York City.
