State Hires Consultant For Kansas City School District

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released the statewide averages on MAP Test scores Tuesday, but the Kansas City district was more focused on another DESE announcement.

The state board also announced that it would be stepping up its oversight of the unaccredited Kansas City school district, and had hired a consulting firm CEE Trust of Indianapolis. DESE spokesperson Sarah Potter said the firm will suggest long-range strategies for improvement. She said the consultants will provide the state with recommendations on district policy, practice systems and governance.

The consultants are to make their recommendations by January.

Potter also said that expected improved evaluation scores to be released this week won't change Kansas City's unaccredited status. She said no categorizations will change until there is three years of data from the new evaluation scoring system.
