Volunteer with KCUR

Public Radio is driven by the public. Here's how you can get involved with KCUR 89.3.

Volunteering

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at KCUR! Volunteering is a terrific way to show your support for the station.

Currently, we are looking for volunteers to help us during our Membership Drive. Our 300+ volunteers are vital to making our membership drives a success.

KCUR volunteers answer calls with a friendly voice, take pledge and payment information accurately and answer questions from our listeners — all while ensuring that our members have a great “pledging” experience.

We do require all volunteers to attend a training session before each membership drive and commit to at least one 2-3 hour shift during the membership drive. They must also be comfortable:

  • Using a phone with headset
  • Entering data in real-time from callers on a web-based computer entry screen
  • Representing KCUR to the general public
  • Working closely with other volunteers in a fast-paced environment, often intermixed with slow periods.

If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering during our membership drives, please email volunteer@kcur.org.

We occasionally need clerical help or assistance with special events. Currently, we do not have any volunteer needs on a daily or weekly basis.

KCUR Generation Listen

Connecting young listeners to the people, places and things that make Kansas City an exciting place to be. Get more information here.

Looking for a new way to meet people?

Enjoy discussing podcasts, politics and pop culture?

Find yourself saying “I heard this thing on NPR…”

If so, you probably belong in KCUR Generation Listen — the young friends of KCUR 89.3.

We are a group of young public radio listeners who enjoy exploring Kansas City and all that it has to offer. We host regular events like trivia, podcast parties, concerts, happy hours, political debates and more – all with the goal of helping connect you to like-minded people.

What do you “do” in GenListen?

GenListen primarily revolves around our awesome events. Together, we’ve explored places like Bar K, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, KC Bier Co., Stockyard Brewing Co., the National WWI Museum, Ruby Jean’s Juicery, Tapcade, and lots of other local establishments.

Some of our events have a clear purpose: listen to a podcast, hear from elected officials, hear new bands, etc. Others are more chill – mix, mingle, eat, drink, dance, whatever! Whether you’re into policy or puppies (or policy puppies!), there’s probably something up your alley.

We also partner with other local organizations like the Modernists, GenKC, Young Friends of the Kansas City Public Library to help introduce you to even more people and places.

What does it cost?

Nothing! Membership in Generation Listen is completely free, though we do sell admission to some of our highly attended events. If you like what we’re doing, though, we hope you’ll consider
making a donation to KCUR 89.3.

How do I join?

We don’t have a stuffy membership process. All you have to do is
join our e-mail list, follow us on social media, or show up to one of our events, and you’re in!

Where do I get more info?

For starters, follow us on your favorite form of social media! You can find us on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. (Sorry, TikTokkers. We’re cool, but not that cool.)

You can also sign up for our e-mails to be the first to know about our upcoming events, plus get recommendations for restaurants, podcasts and more.
