Segment 1: What medical marijuana looks like in practice.

Missouri votes approved Amendment 2 in November, legalizing the use of medical marijuana in the state. So what happens next? We'll talk about all the hoops that have to be jumped through before dispensaries start opening in our area.

  • Alex Smith, KCUR health reporter
  • Aubrey Gann-Redmon, attorney specializing in medical cannabis law

Segment 2, beginning at 32:55: A conversation with a Latin Grammy-winning musician.

Mireya Ramos sings and plays fiddle in an all-female mariachi band in Brooklyn, New York. We'll hear the ways the group is breaking with mariachi traditions, and we'll listen to some of the collaborations she's made with Kansas City musicians. She is in town for aconcert tonight at The Ship with The Poor Choices.

People don't make cameos in news stories; the human story is the story, with characters affected by news events, not defined by them. As a columnist and podcaster, I want to acknowledge what it feels like to live through this time in Kansas City, one vantage point at a time. Together, these weekly vignettes form a collage of daily life in Kansas City as it changes in some ways, and stubbornly resists change in others.
