Wichita-area school district pulls novel from middle school library after an anonymous complaint
"The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie was challenged by the grandparent of a Derby ninth-grader. A district committee decided to no longer allow teachers to use the novel in lessons and to remove it from the library at Derby North Middle School.
Missouri Supreme Court criticized for trans ruling that cited a 2002 dictionary definition of 'sex'
The case centers on a student in the Blue Springs School District. A 5-2 ruling from the state's highest court recently found that the Missouri Human Rights Act “does not cover claims based on gender identity," but it used a definition of "sex" that's more than two decades old.

Nearly 2 decades in, Kansas City's annual Dragon Boat Festival is still racing along Brush Creek
The Jackson County Legislature passed a resolution to declare June 10 as “Dragon Boat Festival Day." The annual event at Country Club Plaza began in 2005, and is the only one in the world that takes place on a creek.
