On this Tuesday's Central Standard, a look at UMKC's Rebuild Joplin Studio Project. For those working on it, they quickly learned that this is more than just another class, but an opportunity to rebuild a resilient Joplin.
Back around 2003, Gunnar Hand was fresh out of college. He took his first planning job in Joplin, Missouri. He rented a nice apartment, walking distance from where he’d work out, and buy his groceries. This past semester he went back to Joplin for the first time since the 2011 tornado, with a classroom of Urban Planning students, and found that his old building was gone. Not a trace. Today on the show, we'll hear how his experience informed the course. He'll be joined by Urban Studies Professor Jacob Wagner, and UMKC Urban Studies seniors Jared Daniel and Sean Connelly.
