New York may have Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman but Missouri is not without a headless story or two of its own.
In the first part of Tuesday's Central Standard and just in time for Halloween, author Mary Barile joins Jabulani Leffall with some of the stories from her collection, The Haunted Boonslick: Ghosts, Ghouls and Monsters of Missouri's Heartland. Together they explore the tales that come from Missouri's haunted heart.
Mary Barile is an author, historian and playwright. Born in New York City and raised on Long Island, she studied music and literature at Hofstra University and was a member of the Long Island Symphony. Barile moved to Missouri in 2001 and is currently associate director of grants for the University of Missouri, where she teaches grant writing. She received her PhD from the University of Missouri in theater history. Her work has been performed in the U.S. and Canada. For her research on her book, Leaving Hannibal, she was awarded a Quarry Farm Fellowship from the Center for Mark Twain Studies at Elmira College.
