Unaccompanied

Within the past couple of years, there's been an influx of unaccompanied child migrants arriving in the United States (including to Kansas) after fleeing violence and poverty in Central America. We check in on those kids with two local immigration lawyers and a reporter who has investigated the placement of young immigrants in unsafe homes.

Guests:

  • Angela L. Williams, local immigration lawyer
  • Michael Sharma-Crawford, local immigration lawyer
  • Garance Burke, investigative reporter, Associated Press

People don't make cameos in news stories; the human story is the story, with characters affected by news events, not defined by them. As a columnist and podcaster, I want to acknowledge what it feels like to live through this time in Kansas City, one vantage point at a time. Together, these weekly vignettes form a collage of daily life in Kansas City as it changes in some ways, and stubbornly resists change in others.
