Planet Comicon (Kansas City’s largest pop culture & comic book show with George Takei), 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Bartle Hall Convention Center, 301 W. 13th. Tickets: Adults $40 two-day, $25 Saturday only, $20 Sunday only; ages 11 to 15 $10 two-day.

 
Sushi Showdown Sushi-Eating Contest(Competitive eating challenge for 24 sushi maniacs), 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Ra Sushi restaurant, 11638 Ash in Leawood. Admission: Free, participants must be at least 18.

 
Dogs on the Lawn (Day out for pooches and the people they bring with them), 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday on the south side of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, 4525 Oak. Admission: Free

 
75th Anniversary Celebration of Benny Goodman's 1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concertby the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra with guest clarinetist Ken Peplowski, 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 1601 Broadway. Tickets: $40 to $75

 
“Carrie” Slaughter Prom 2013 (Screening of 1976 film with scary prom attire encouraged and prizes for horrific king & queen), 7 p.m. Thursday, Screenland Armour Theatre, 408 Armour Road. Tickets: $5
