Renée Blanche: Maintaining The Calm With 20 Years Of 'Night Tides'

Borders Edge Music

Over the course of 20 years the KCUR music program Night Tides has offered “an eclectic blend of contemplative instrumental and electronic music” on the airwaves every Sunday from 8 p.m. - midnight. Right along with those soothing melodies has been the distinctive voice of its host, Renée Blanche.

On this edition of Up to Date, Renée sits down with guest host Danie Alexander to reveal how she stumbled into radio, what the goal of Night Tides has been since Blanche's first day on the job, and how an "uncomfortable moment" led to that voice.

As senior producer of Up To Date, I want our listeners to hear familiar and new voices that shine light on the issues and challenges facing the myriad communities KCUR serves, and to expose our audiences to the wonderful and the creative in the Kansas City area. Just as important to me is an obligation to mentor the next generation of producers to ensure that the important conversations continue. Reach me at alexanderdk@kcur.org.
