Iraqi Poet Dunya Mikhail On How Poetry Changed The Course Of Her Life

Her powerful words were enough for the government of Saddam Hussein to declare her an enemy.  For Iraqi poet Dunya Mikhail, poetry has charted and changed the course of her life in significant ways. On this edition of Up To Date, we discuss the experience of relaying her personal experiences  into verse and hear some of her stark and poignant poetry.

HEAR MORE:  Dunya Mikhail will participate in a reading tonight at 7 p.m. at the Mabee Theater on the campus of Rockhurst University as a part of The Midwest Poets Series. Admission is $3 (but no one will be turned away for lack of funds).

Kansas City needs journalists who show up not just on people’s worst days, but on their best ones — and the boring ones in between. As KCUR’s news director, I build relationships across the metro, so our newsroom can bring you critical information when times are tough, and seek out moments of joy to celebrate.
