School is back in session and, for some, that can mean a little extra stress around the house. To help keep things in perspective, Up To Date's indie, foreign, and documentary film critics offer a few movies featuring family members — or friends who might as well be — dealing with the fallout of life's big plans not quite reaching fruition.

- This contemporary film noir-modern western hybrid about brothers, played by Chris Pine and Ben Foster, who rob banks as payback for their disenfranchised friends and family is one of the best films this year.
Imperium, R
- Daniel Radcliffe gives a tough, visceral performance as an undercover FBI agent infiltrating white supremacist groups.
Don't Think Twice, R
- This biting comedy follows the implosion of an improv troupe after one of its members gets a high-profile TV gig.
