Up To Date's Indie, Foreign & Doc Critics' 'Three To See,' March 10-12

www.kedifilm.com

For the upcoming weekend, Up To Date's indie, foreign and documentary film critics Steve Walker and Bob Butler, are in agreement about their movie recommendations. The picks are sure to appeal to ardent admirers of documentaries and drama.

Kedi, Unrated

The documentary about the stray cats of Istanbul, Turkey demonstrates -- in vignettes both moving, and yes, even to a dog person, adorable -- why the city's residents feel like they are "on the same frequency" as their beloved felines.

The Salesmen, PG-13

This Foreign Film Oscar-winner from A Separation director Asghar Farhadi is a stunning achievement about an Iranian couple, acting in a production of Death of a Salesman, who undergo a traumatic incident and become alternately immobilized and empowered.

I Am Not Your Negro, PG-13

A whip-smart documentary portrait of writer James Baldwin that combines archival footage of speeches and talk show appearances with passages from his unfinished book about Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and Medgar Evers.

Since 1998, Steve Walker has contributed stories and interviews about theater, visual arts, and music as an arts reporter at KCUR. He's also one of Up to Date's regular trio of critics who discuss the latest in art, independent and documentary films playing on area screens.
